1.  What do I need to bring to my class?

You don’t need to bring much! We provide:

  • Sewing machines (domestic & industrial)

  • All necessary tools (scissors, pins, measuring tapes, rulers, marking tools) 

  • Refreshments

Recommended to bring:

  • Fabric and matching threads

  • Comfortable clothing suitable for sitting and moving around

  • Notebook and pen if you want to take notes

Other materials, including high-quality fabrics and haberdashery can be purchased at discounted trade price during your course.

2. Do you provide sewing machines?

Yes! Every student has access to:

  • Domestic sewing machines for standard projects

  • An industrial sewing machines for heavy fabrics and trickier projects

  • Machines are set up and ready to use.

3.  Can I bring my own fabric?

Yes! Students are welcome to bring their own fabrics. We also provide access to high-quality upholstery and curtain fabrics at discounted trade rates — perfect if you want professional results at home.

4. How do I book a class?

You can book online via our Courses Page or contact us directly via email or phone. Early booking is recommended to secure your preferred date.

5. Can beginners join the classes?

We recommend that complete beginners sign up for one of our Beginner's Sewing workshops before doing the Soft Furnishing Course, as basic sewing skills and familiarity with sewing machines are required for this.

6.  What types of projects will I make?

Depending on the course you choose, projects include:

  • Lined curtains

  • Roman blinds

  • Box cushions and scatter cushions

  • Window seats

All projects are taught step-by-step with professional techniques, so you leave with finished, high-quality pieces.

7. How do I get there?

We are based in Joppa, Edinburgh, and easily accessible by:

  • Public bus routes from East Lothian, Leith, and the city centre

  • 5 minute walk from Brunstane Train Station

  • Street parking nearby for those driving.

8.  Are there toilet facilities?

Yes. The sewing school has clean, fully accessible toilet facilities on-site for all students.

9.  What is your cancellation policy?

  • Cancellations allowed up to 4 weeks before the course starts

  • Name changes are permitted within 4 weeks: 

  • If you need to postpone due to illness, please contact us — we aim to accommodate where possible.
