About Joppa Sewing School

I'm Donna, mum of 2 and owner of Joppa Sewing School.  I’m now living my dream, doing something I love and working in a way that fits around my family’s life. In 2023, after qualifying in upholstery and soft furnishings, I took the leap and left my desk job behind. I built a workshop in my garden and founded the school, a small, welcoming space where creativity, learning and community come together.

Sewing has been part of my life for many years and I’ve always loved creating things. There’s something very special about taking a piece of fabric and turning it into something beautiful and useful for your home. That love of making is what eventually inspired me to turn my passion into a career.

Along the way, I discovered a real love for teaching too. I get so much joy from helping people learn new skills and watching their confidence grow. One of my favourite moments is when someone finishes a project and suddenly realises what they’ve achieved. Seeing people feel proud of something they’ve made with their own hands (often far better than they expected) is incredibly rewarding.

Classes take place in my bright garden workshop, where I teach small, friendly groups. It’s always lovely to see students chatting, sharing ideas, and encouraging each other as they sew. Over time it has become more than just a workshop, it’s a relaxed, creative space where people can slow down, learn something new and enjoy a few hours away from the busyness of everyday life.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or already have some experience, my aim is to help you build your confidence and discover the pleasure of sewing, one stitch at a time.
